Meet Mrs. Astin
I am very excited to be your Innovation Specialist this year. I work with all grades at Dowell in some capacity. I spend half of my day supporting the Advanced Content curriculum and the remainder of the day as a rotating specialist for grades K-2. If you are a 4th or 5th grader, I will be working with you in the area of Advanced Content Writing. We will learn about different genres of writing and complete many fun projects throughout the year. Most of your work will be completed at school (so minimal homework….yay!). We will also use Office 365 to complete most of your writing and projects. If you are in 3rd grade, I will be extending your math instruction with tasks that are beyond your regular classroom. In math, we will be focusing a lot on problem solving and fact fluency.
We will learn a lot about each other over the next 10 months. I can’t wait to learn ALL ABOUT YOU! Here are some things I would like you to know about me:
I will begin my 21st year of teaching this year, with this being my 4th year at Dowell. Previously, I taught 5th grade, but I am looking forward to my new position as an Innovation Specialist. I have also taught Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades in the past. I obtained my Gifted Endorsement several years ago and love teaching Advanced Content. I just completed my Specialist in Teacher Leadership from Mercer University with my other 2 degrees being in Science Education and Early Childhood Education. Outside of school, I love to cook and travel. This past summer I traveled to London and Paris and can’t wait to explore the rest of the world.
I work in conjunction with Mrs. Belcher to sponsor Student Government, Science Olympiad, and Jr. BETA club (all of which are new opportunities for you this year).
Anytime you have questions, please contact me via e-mail at [email protected].
